There's no backing down this time
Lucy Everhart expected her opposing counsel to be a slick, soulless corporate lawyer. Who else would represent developers intent on turning Chicago's Safe Haven women's shelter into condos? But she never imagined it would be Dylan Hunt. Clearly, he's no longer the idealistic young man she fell for in law school. This is Dylan 2.0. The man who let her go without a fight five years agoalong with his passion for social justice, apparently. He may have compromised what he believed in, but Lucy hasn't. Dylan has no idea what kind of fight he's in for. But then again, neither does she.

Love these sisters and the whole family! This story moves faster than the other two in this series, The Better Man and The Best Laid Plans. Lucy and Dylan come out slinging verbal punches from the beginning. As two attorneys on opposing sides of an emotional issue -- the attempted forced sale of the property which would displace the abused women and children's home -- things go from 0 to 160 FAST! While the others in the room get whiplash watching these two go at it, no one else knows that they had a history that included plans to spend a future together until Lucy decided to end the relationship. Dylan never knew what he did that made her feelings change toward him. Lucy is blindsided by his reappearance, but vows to herself to keep him out of her heart since it was for his own good that she pushed him away 5 years ago. There is the delightful reacquaintance with the Everhart family and we learn more about them -- particularly when Moma Everhart had cancer some years ago. We also get to hear more of the other sisters, Emma and Kendall and their husbands Max and the nickname king,Charlie! Plus the kids from the other stories; Simon, Jeremy, baby Darcy! Lucy lied when she pushed Dylan away and, not just to Dylan. Well, another crisis looms and this time the TRUTH shows up and demands the room! In addition we get a glimpse into the heartache of some of the residents of the abused women's shelter and why Lucy fights so hard to keep this only safe place for these women and their children. But no one's heart is safe in the Hardest Fight! Who will be left standing? Ms. Vastine is an excellent story teller. She knows her way around a complex plot! Also, while this is the 3rd in a series, it is a stand alone story. However, to get the full richness and nuance of the family Everhart you should read the other two!Product details

The Hardest Fight Chicago Sisters Book 3 eBook Amy Vastine Reviews
Lucy is a lawyer for a safe haven for women. The building they have been renting caught the attention of the city's elite who want to make it into condos. Lucy is ready for a battle as she is scheduled to meet with the opposing side. What she isn't ready for is that the opposing lawyer is her former boyfriend.
Like a good Heartwarming, this book was clean, thought provoking and a happily ever after. Lucy's had some hard things happen; she's also made things harder for herself. For the most part I liked Lucy's character. I guess I had a hard time deciding who she was. She was incredibly strong and good. She was whiny and feeling sorry for herself. I realize what I am describing is just a normal person, but it was a bit of a roller-coaster and not all the time was I sure I liked the ride.
Dylan I liked. I felt that although his character was good and kind at the beginning of the book, he faced things and continued to grow. I especially loved that his relationship with his mother added a greater maturity.
All the supporting characters were well done as well.
This book has depth and is a little more thought provoking than straight up romance. It has a message that I think we all need.
Rating 4 Stars
Content Clean, kissing, mild violence

I think this is my favorite of the Chicago Sisters stories. Maybe because there are some parts to Lucy I completely identify with, and maybe a part of this book hit very close to home. Probably both, plus the story telling talent that Amy Vastine has - that's a bonus.
Lucy is strong willed - fights from her heart - and yes, feels the need to be right. A lot, but hey, who doesn't? Right?
I thoroughly enjoyed how Vastine told us the story of one of Lucy's "clients" without getting into too much detail that it detracted from Lucy's story, but just enough to bring emotions bubbling up inside me about jerk husbands and the accurate thought process of an abused woman.
Lucy's reactions to her illness I thought were pretty straight forward and spot on. You can never assume someone is going to react the way you would in any given situation. Everyone has their buttons, their insecurities. Parts of themselves they want to protect. Parts of people they love that they want to protect. Even though Lu is flawed, and jaded, and probably made a few bad choices along the way, I happen to, for one, have enjoyed that aspect of the story, since - all of us are flawed, whether we like it or not. It's how we deal with and learn from those flaws that makes us who we are.
She came through and saw how to love again, and how to let herself be loved. I was so heartbreakingly happy for her for choosing that path in the end.
You will love love love the characters that Vastine introduces in this one. Like Dylan, and his elderly neighbor slash BFF, his grandson, Dylan's family - and talk about flawed. My favorite, nick-name giving ambulance medic was back of course, providing me with some comic relief, I adore Charlie to the end of time.
This entire series will own my heart for a long time to come. These sisters may fight, and even keep things from each other, from time to time, but they never forget, they're sisters. And they love each other.
Thanks Amy!
