I read this book with my book club. It was light and fun. I am a mom of two boys and enjoy reading as an escape from Legos, Wii and Sponge Bob Square Pants. I know a book is good if I'm plotting a way to read it (getting the kids to bed early, allowing them extra play time in the bath, etc) and this book did that for me. I can see this book as a movie, a perfect Girls' Night Out. I don't like writing reviews that tell you what happened in the book, read it and find out (and don't you just hate spoliers???). I just want you to know, if you love your life (family, kids, career), but sometimes need a little break, give Objects of My Affection a try. Oh, and why isn't the book on the cover a Mustang??? :) Enjoy.Tags : Objects of My Affection: A Novel [Jill Smolinski] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. In the humorous, heartfelt new novel by the author of The Next Thing on My List, a personal organizer must somehow convince a reclusive artist to give up her hoarding ways and let go of the stuff she’s hung onto for decades.

In the humorous,Jill Smolinski,Objects of My Affection: A Novel,Gallery Books,1451660758,Compulsive hoarding;Fiction.,Secrecy;Fiction.,Single mothers;Fiction.,American Contemporary Fiction - Individual Authors +,Compulsive hoarding,Contemporary Women,FICTION General,FICTION Women,Fiction,Fiction - General,Secrecy,Single mothers

Good read enjoyed it very much. Nice and relaxing story and I read in less than a week which I usually only have time to read one or two chapters in a day.
arrived before stated date in secure packaging.
WHile the book was light-hearted and fun, the heroine of the story struggled with some serious problems and was able to resolve them wisely. I really enjoyed the book and looked forward to reading it daily. I liked the way serious aspects and light-hearted aspects were intermingled.
This book touched me in so many ways. It has given me the encouragement to change my life for the better. I read it almost non-stop (started one evening and picked it up again as soon as I woke up)......it's THAT good!
When Lucy Bloom, personal organizer, sells her home and most of her possessions to afford her son Ash's drug rehab, she needs a job that will bring in enough to finance her new life.
Her new job turns out to be the most challenging one she's had oversee the decluttering of a "hoarder" artist's home, and do it discreetly. The downside is she has a very limited time to accomplish the task, but if she does, she'll receive a huge bonus.
It sounds fairly straightforward, but soon Lucy discovers that her client, Marva Meier Rios, seemingly cannot let go of anything and fights her all along the way.
In the process of completing this task, what will Lucy uncover amidst the detritus of Marva's life? What secrets from the past are informing the present? And how will Lucy finally get through to her addicted son who seems unwilling to stay in rehab?
In answering these questions and in exploring a defunct relationship that she may have ended prematurely, Lucy must discover that "there are those things you keep, things you let go of--and it's often not easy to know the difference."
A richly engaging story that delves into the heart of human relationships, both to other people and to the objects they possess, Objects of My Affection A Novel was a five-star read for me.
This book was a fun read. Lucy not only cleans up Marva Meier Rios's home, she straightens up the artist's family life as well as her own. And she discovers why the artist became a hoarder in the first place. This was one of those books you don't stop; you just keep reading until you reach the very satisfying end.
From the title I thought this book would be about people the protagonist cared about but instead it's about an artist who has become a hoarder over time and now needs to clean house, literally and figuratively. The story has it's twists and turns and keeps you wanting more. I found the lead character (not the artist, but the woman she hires to help her) to be somewhat unbelievable. Mothers will do just about anything for their children but come on now, selling your house to put your drug addicted kid into rehab? In the end it is a satisfying book and a good read.
Fluff - Fun - and although an eccentric older person, her character teaches a lesson in the difficulties of letting go of the past - true for most older folks. Also true, how many younger folks do not understand that difficulty while others take advantage of a senior's vulnerability - Best is reading how a successful son finally realizes the values taught to him by his mom - her example of how to live is his heritage - I did not think the story is centered on the young women who needed a job - she tells the story - the story is about letting go.
