After being kicked out of college due to false claims of plagiarism, Jason's life has taken a turn for the worse. Swamped with student loans and unable to pay rent, he is literally at his wit's end when he meets Guy Winters. Everything about Guy is fascinating his lifestyle, his appearance, his generosity. So when Jason faces potential homelessness, he agrees to move in, but it isn't long before he realizes that Guy seems different. He's vague about where he works, the temperature is always freezing in his home, and his touch renders Jason breathless beyond what any passion should.

After a home invasion leaves a man dead, a horrifying truth comes to life. Guy isn't human, and another of his kind is in Austin, leaving trail of bodies in its wake that frames both men for murder. With Jason's fingerprints in the apartment and a gunshot that will have sent the police department scrambling, there's no time to explain. The only thing they can do is run.

His Touch of Ice (Audible Audio Edition) Kody Boye Joel Leslie Books

There are paragraphs, in this M/M novella, the first instalment in a fantasy series, that bear the mark of a great writer: writing is harsh, clipped, utterly convincing.
This, added to a original and interesting lore and a quick plot, could have lead to an excellent reading experience but for one problem: the two leads feel stiff and distant, their motives always hazy, their psychological development hidden and unclear.
As this concern even the POV bearer, one of the two leads, whose feelings should be crystal clear and are blurry instead, relating to the story and rooting for the characters becomes difficult.

Several typos/mistakes require further attention from author and/or editor.

His Touch of Ice (Audible Audio Edition) Kody Boye Joel Leslie Books Reviews

Jason is a down on his luck student. Guy is a very established businessman, or so Jason thinks. The men meet by chance and share a night of passion. They quickly become friends and Guy asks Jason to move in with him because Jason has nowhere else to go. When a robbery goes bad while Jason is home alone he finds out that Guy isn't quite human. They go on an adventure to Guy's childhood home where they are faced with a major choice and a betrayal that will leave them reeling.

The only thing that made the story hard for me to read is over the top descriptions. Don't get me wrong, they were absolutely stunning but were much more artistic than I would imagine a story like this warrants. Although some of the descriptions took me a little away from the story, I was able to get back into it without too much trouble.

A side note - this does end in a cliffhanger so of course I had to get the 2nd book because I NEED TO KNOW!!!! *goes off to read His Kiss of Darkness*
A blend of myth and fantasy brings us to the two main characters, Guy and Jason. Two lovers placed into a particular situation.

I found the story to be erotic (yes there's Gay Sex), so you Mike Pence's of the world be warned. Stay with Mother and don't read this book.

For the rest of the world, this is a fun book. But, there are a bunch of inconsistencies in the story. My main gripe is that the Goddess didn't know what was going on. That's what Goddesses do, they know things. Not in this book.

And there were hints Jason was more than presented. How did her hear her? Was it because he's got history with a lightening bolt? Did Odin bless him? Don't know....yet.

For the English teachers - I didn't see any glaring errors with spelling or grammar; that makes it an easy read. Do I recommend? Yes, try it.

Will I buy the next novel? Not sure....I'll have to think about it.
I hate it when books have this many errors. The inside cover says it was copyedited by 2 different people. Either they lied about actually doing it, the writer is lying about hiring copyeditors, or the 2 copyeditors need to be fired. Misspelled words, missing words/letters, incorrectly used words, words without spacing ("fromwhich") and grammar errors, all in abundance. I think the incorrectly used words were what irked me the most. Don't write a book and try to sound super-intelligent, only to end up sounding super stupid when you use the wrong word on more than one occasion. For instance, when the intruder was dying, and his "gurgling gasps were reduced to slight chortles..." So he laughed as he died? Or "The low pang of voices..." A sudden, sharp pain of voices? Okay. And then there were the errors that threw off the story. At the beginning, Jason saw no sign of Guy in the club, but how would he know if his profile didn't show his entire face? Or how in the beginning Jason says he doesn't drink, but after sex with Guy they go out for margaritas. Sex makes you go from Cokes to tequila? Or Jason killing a werewolf by bonking it on the head with a figurine, but later Amadeo says he'll have to use silver bullets to kill them. Or in the beginning how Guy said the intruder could've killed him, but later it talks about his immortality.

I really hated the things that were introduced and never explained or fleshed out. I never fully understood what Guy was, or how he and his people came to be. Or how Jason had been surviving for a year after being expelled from school. How every time Jason asked Guy to explain something, Guy would give him an answer that went in a totally different direction, basically leaving the question unanswered. Elliot stating that Guy was "freshly turned" (I'm assuming into a Kaldr) but when, how, and by whom? Jason has to recover from a heatstroke, when no heatstroke was ever mentioned. "Sanguines" are mentioned but not explained. No human should be able to hear or understand when the Kelda speaks, yet Jason does. (To be honest, I didn't understand a thing she said.) And Guy's mother had died, but how and when did Elliot get to take on a new partner? And why did he have such a problem with Guy being gay if he was gay?

Between the countless errors and the numerous questions I was plagued with, it was hard to get into this story, and it felt like it dragged on forever. And I never really got past the fact that they "met" on a dating app, went out to a bar and had sex that same night, then Jason "has to" move in about 3 days later, and by the end of the week they're running away together from this madness that was still halfway unexplained by the end of the book. And of course, they're in love within a couple of weeks. And why is there an epilogue if there are more books to follow?
