I read all five books of this series one right after the other, so I'm having a little trouble remembering what happens in each book. That said, I just finished reading all five books in two days (they are full-length books--I just read very quickly), and I'm all ready thinking about reading them all again! I liked them that much. I believe another reviewer didn't like this book as much, because it dealt with the love triangle between Zoey, Dan, and Dev quite a bit, and the reviewer didn't think there was much of a plot. I respectfully disagree. I thought the plot was very well-done, and the interpersonal relationships needed to be addressed. It wasn't all sex scenes and internal, angst-ridden musings, but, if I were to read a book of all sex scenes, I'd want that book to be written by Lexi Blake, because her sex scenes are the sex scenes that all sex scenes want to be. It probably helps that her characters are so well-developed. Sex between Zoey and Dan is different than sex between Zoey and Dev, not just a description of a different sexual position, where any two names could be inserted.I really enjoyed this book, and, if you enjoyed the first one, just go ahead and buy the rest of them. The writing is solid throughout, the plots are good, the character development makes sense and is believable. Besides, you're just going to end up buying them anyway. :)

I loved it!!! Even after a bit of a break from reading the 1st book in this series, "Steal the Light" I was able to catch up easily. The plot is thick and fast. Once I opened the cover I had a lot of trouble putting it down, but the dogs have to go out and the husband prefers to eat on a fairly regular basis. Zoey is a determined young woman, but then anyone who can keep up with a very powerful vampire as her husband, a faery prince ( grandson of the God of Fertility no less) for a lover and still find the time to make a living stealing from supernaturals better be. There are so many twists and turns in this story that you'll need a good chiropractor to keep in shape.
Lexi was my 1st author and I have never been disappointed in any of her writings. Now all I have to do is wait ( never been real good at that) for the next "Thieves" book to come out " Steal the Moon" in January, will make nice birthday present for myself. Ohh yes I do have it on pre-order Talk later
I was a big fan of the first book. I loved the idea that the heroine was in charge of a supernatural crew of thieves. Sadly, Zoey has morphed into an impulsive whiner in Book 2. She is definitely not on top of her game and doesn't do a great job of caring for the two men she says she loves. I didn't mind the angst in the novel, but was irritated by her lack of self-awareness and control.
Given the delicate politics surrounding Daniel's mission, it was disappointing to see her behave like a wannabe gangsta. The whole "it's cute how unpredictable she is" grew old quickly. Ironically, both Dev and Daniel became more complex and interesting in Book 2.
Ms. Blake is a good writer despite my frustration with the heroine.
"Those shoes were exciting and sexy, and just the slightest bit uncomfortable. They were a little like my relationship with Dev."
"I promise I won’t let anything nasty happen to you. Well, not anything I am not directly involved in." Ha!
“I love you, Zoey. I’ve never said those words before this moment. I love you, and if you leave me for that blood sucker, I’ll lose the best part of me."
3.5 stars not rounded to 4 due to cliffhanger. If you are not a fan of love triangles, then you might want to give this a miss. I'm hoping for a more interesting version of Zoey in Book 3.
My review of Book 1 is basically a series review, so instead of repeating everything, I’m going to focus more on the things I liked about this particular book.
And one of the things I loved about this particular book was that it was just as amazingly emotional and heart-wrenching as the first, but in a slightly different way. Whereas the first book was mostly tension, longing, not knowing who to trust, and the pain of Zoey finding out just how much Daniel had been keeping from her and how far he was from her emotionally, this one was about love and the heartbreak of the love triangle. It was about Zoey being in love with two men and knowing that she’d have chosen Daniel in a heartbeat at any other point in her life but not being sure anymore because he hurt her too many times by pushing her away; it was about Dev knowing that Zoey will never be happy without Daniel and that she’ll never stop loving him; it was about Daniel realizing that Zoey’s relationship with Dev isn’t just a fling and that he might actually lose her.
Then there was that one scene, that gloriously heartbreaking and beautiful scene near the end of the book. [Hidden spoiler can be found in my review on my blog or Goodreads.] Honestly, that scene gives goosebumps just thinking about it. The love between Zoey and Daniel is so beautiful it makes me want to cry. But the thing about all the emotion in these books is that it doesn’t matter how many times I read them or that I know what’s going to happen, Lexi Blake somehow writes in this way that just puts me in the characters’ shoes and makes me feel what they’re feeling.
And that’s not the only scene I love in this book. The fight between Daniel and Dev in the cemetery is so intense and amped up with emotion too. It’s also the first time you really get a taste of how strong both Daniel’s and Dev’s powers are.
And let's not forget the characters. Like Dev, who is downright vicious sometimes in this book. He knows exactly what to say to people to cut the deepest, and I cringe every time I read those things. But then, Daniel isn’t perfect either. He's also said some hurtful things himself, and how many times has he used the excuse of protecting Zoey when he was really just pushing her away and hurting her? But that’s exactly what I love so much about these characters—they’re truly flawed, they do crappy things and hurt each other sometimes, but I still can’t help but love them for the goodness that’s in them too.
This book is also when the vampire politics really start coming into play and the bigger plot gets started. There’s still an individual plot in each book, but there’s an overarching one as well that starts building. The more I've read these books, but more I've come to appreciate how well thought-out that bigger plot is and how Lexi Blake really manages to convey the seriousness of it. This book is also when Daniel and Dev start reluctantly working together more and trying to navigate that relationship.
Last but not least, just like the first book, this one had action, heists, supernatural creatures, humor, biting, sex, love, friendship, and so many great things! So if you liked the first one, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. This one even had an interesting twist that threw me a bit the first time I read it but that I came to love by the time I finished the series.
So overall, this is another fantastic book in a fantastic urban fantasy series!
